The shop consists of the following divisions:
- Electrolytic refining of copper is based on the unsupported process
(permanent titanium cathode plates and an associated stripping machine)
which was the first to be used in Russia. Following the introduction
of this process at the plant, we have achieved a marked improvement
in cathode quality, reaching an average copper content of 99.997%. Processes
of washing, stripping, stacking, weighing and bundling of the cathodes
are performed automatically with the use of a cathode stripping machine
(Manufacturer: Wenmec System OY, Finland).
- Copper and nickel sulfate recovery division makes use of the state-of-the-art
Russian technology incorporating vacuum crystallizer units. This approach
enabled us not only to improve the copper sulfate quality, but also
helped to create better conditions of work and ecological safety. Instead
of the mixed copper-nickel salts produced formerly, the division started
making very pure nickel sulfate (grade "pure") for electroplating
industry in 1997.
- The precious metal plant. The production process is based on the
Finish technology and uses Finish process equipment (Manufacturer: Outokumpu
Wenmec OY). The plant used only to pretreat the slime separated from
the anode during electrolytic refining. Presently gold and silver in
ingots, platinum and palladium concentrates as well as technical purity
selenium are produced with the use of the precious metal recovery system.
The Kyshtym experts have developed and introduced production processes
to make tellurium, platinum and palladium as separate metals in the
form of powder. Practically all the processes in this division are computerized.
